Good features, makes good coffee, but tank leaks

Title tells the story. When the Kitchenaid model 1209OB is not leaking from the reservoir base, it makes great tasting coffee. I found many online reviews stating similar about this and other Whirlpool (parent company) models with removable tanks.
What we've done is to keep the base of the tank and the mating surface dry, then put the empty reservoir in place and very slowly fill the tank while attached so as not to shift the tank even slightly, or it will start leaking fast.
Using this method, we'll see leaking maybe only twice per week and we use it every morning, twice on Sunday.
There is a Whirpool safety recall for several models, but this (by serial number) was not one of them. I suspect a faulty base tank seal, and am considering permanently fixing the tank to the base with epoxy.
My review scores are based on each aspect in the review categories. For example, it's very easy to use, so 5 out of 5 for that, but a leaking base can be a safety hazard since it leaks into the ocmpartment with the electronics, so for Design category it gets a two from me.
I think this problem could be fixed with a longer plastic tube going down, into the base, with two silicon O-Ring seals, one to seat the base of the tube within the water intake, and another near the midpoint of the tube ltself to help keep water from exiting the base.

Features work as advertised. We use the automatic timer and does a great job. We fill the water for 10-1/2 cups and it brews about 10 minutes. We just use the set 1.

This coffee maker is really nice, makes a pot of coffee a lot faster than my older coffee maker. I like that there is a reusable filter so I don't have to buy any more coffee filters. The automatic settings are awesome, no time wasted waiting on the pot to brew just set a timer and wake up to a fresh pot.. love that! Makes good coffee, super easy to use and I'm very happy with it!

I have recieved this coffee maker a couple weeks ago and wow, it is quick to brew. The coffee is not bitter. Makes a great pot of coffee in about 10 min. Even has fill lines for you coffee grounds to help you make a great pot of coffee. Love my Kitchenaid coffee maker.

My favorite thing is the built in filter and the spiral showerhead. I love the timer which makes it easy to get everything ready the night before and one less thing to check off in the morning. The water tank also makes this easy to use where you are not refilling every day, only when it gets low. You don't have to try and fill it through a tiny hole using the coffee pitcher, it removes and you can fill it at the sink. A must have for every coffee drinking family.

This 12 cup programmable coffee maker is sleek in design and has fantastic features! The filter is permanent and very easy to remove and clean, you can pop it in the dishwasher on the top shelf or simply wash it with mild dish detergent. The carafe can also be washed with mild dish detergent. The plastic water tank can be easily lifted out to fill or clean or you can simply pour water directly in the tank The programmable features allow you to set an automatic time for brewing, set the clock, change your brew strength or the warmth of the plate! I love the cup size on this coffee maker because we entertain alot and it makes up to 12 cups at a time! I received this the other day and I am very pleased with it. It was everything we were looking for in a coffee pot. It is sleek and modern looking has a built in plate warmer to keep coffee at right temp, has up to 12 cups and even has a measuring system for the perfect coffee measurement. The spiral head seems to make coffee better cause it covers all the coffee instead of running straight through. I could not be happier with this unit and would recommend it to anyone. Thank you Kitchen Aid for an awesome product.

I am in love with this KitchenAid coffee maker. My family drinks a lot of coffee so it is great having a larger coffee pot. I love how it is programmable and you have the dosage chart for the coffee grinds right on the filter. My favorite thing about it is how it keeps the coffee nice and hot after it is brewed by the warming plate. I am a very busy mom of 3 children and by the time I brew my coffee and get to drinking it the time varies. I can always count on this coffee maker for having a nice hot pot of brewed coffee when I am ready to drink it. I am a big fan of KitchenAid products and this 12 Cup Drip Coffee Maker was another great product from KitchenAid to ad to my kitchen appliances.

I am so happy with my KitchenAid - 12 Cup Drip Coffee Maker with Spiral Showerhead and Programmable Warming Plate. It is truly an amazing and extremely attractive appliance. I like this coffee maker for the most part. I like the spiral shower head because it ensures all the coffee grounds get saturated with water. I like the removable water tank too. It has a large opening and makes filling it with water from the sink so easy. I also like that it comes with a reusable filter; although the plastic handle to pull the filter out looks flimsy. This coffee maker has a programmable warming plate. I would rather have had a thermal pot that keeps the coffee warm because I like to bring the coffee pot to the table. With this coffee maker, I have to leave the coffee pot on the warming plate to keep it warm, so I have to get up every time I want another cup.

I am so happy with this coffee maker. I drink between 6-12 cups of coffee a day. I already know someone is thinking it's a lot but between 6 am and 11pm. Not that much. However this coffee pot is amazing because it has a timer, which I looove. It super easy to understand. The drip is great. Plus I love the pause feature so I can grab a cup mid brewing.

I'm picky about my coffee -- I was married in a coffee house. This KitchenAid coffee maker is wonderful, I love the programmable features. There is something about how the spiral showerhead works that really improves the taste of the coffee.
Being able to set the warming plate time is something I've never seen in another coffee maker. If there is one minor feature I don't like, it is that the water container has white text, and it is somewhat hard to see. Even with that minor complaint, I would highly recommend this coffee maker!

This is a beautiful, very pleasing to the eye, appliance. The dimensions are 7" wide x 13" deep x 14" tall. The acrylic removable water tank is one of its nicest features. It has a removable cone filter which has handy cup measurements inside. The programmable warming plate is nice. As for the brewed coffee, I didn't notice any flavor increase because of the showerhead feature, which is supposed to better saturate the grounds.

I was so anxious to try this coffee maker because I was impressed with what I read about it. I drink coffee all day long and this coffee maker makes a great cup of coffee. It has a dosage mark on the water tank to insure you get the perfect flavored cup of coffee. Another great feature is the variable brew strength selector it lets you choose between regular and bold strengths, it also has a timer in which it allows you to set for the desired time in which you would like it to start to brew the coffee for whenever you want your coffee to be ready for you which is an excellent feature because it saves me a lot of time in the morning not having to run to the store to buy a cup of coffee is great and it also saves me money that I would have spent buying coffee each morning before work. I am really impressed with this coffee maker it was a great investment.

I recently replaced my Keurig with this KitchenAid Coffee Maker a couple of weeks ago. Prior to receiving this, I was using K-Kups for the last 10+ years and said to myself "I'm never going back to a carafe". This product has changed my mind.; It's very easy to use, works great and looks awesome on my kitchen counter. This coffee maker has the option to brew up to 12 cups of coffee with either the included gold-tone coffee filter or your choice of filter. It has a spiral shower head which helps the brewing process by saturating the grounds and giving a steady flow of coffee. I like how there is a setting where i can choose between regular and bold strength. There is also two programmable settings to select a time when you want the coffee maker to brew on its own. The warming plate is nice because I can set a timer and also select the temperature (high/low). Since I'm impatient in the morning, I can remove the carafe during the brewing process, pour a cup for myself and it will resume brewing when I put the carafe back. All of the parts are dishwasher safe and easy to clean. The one change I would make is to the carafe itself; the plastic part around the top is not removable. This makes it difficult to clean by hand because soap gets stuck on the inside. Aside from that, this is an excellent quality coffee maker and brews the perfect cup. I would highly recommend it especially if you're on the fence about changing back from K-cups.

I have had my fair share of coffee makers over the years and this one blows them all out of the water! It looks absolutely gorgeous on your counter and it makes the best pot of coffee possible! The showerhead feature really makes a more flavorful, full bodied cup of joe. It has so many surprising little conveniences as well. The basket that holds the grounds has notches that tells you exactly how high up to fill it with grounds for how many cups you are making, so no measuring is required. However, if you prefer to measure, the water reservoir has a little cheat sheet on it that tells you how many tablespoons to add for how many cups you are making. Speaking of the water reservoir, it just pops out and allows you to fill it directly, so the days of filling the pot with water and pouring it into the machine while trying not to pour it all over your counter are gone! Another feature that I use all the time is the pause and pour feature. With my previous coffee maker, when I couldn't wait for my caffeine and had to have a cup while it was still brewing I would just pull it out and pour as fast as I could while coffee dropped and burned onto the hot plate. The geniuses at KitchenAid fixed this problem by adding a pause button so I can pause the brewing, pour my cup, then resume it when I'm done. I don't have a bad word to say about this amazing machine!

In our house the coffee maker gets a daily work out and we've had many through the years. There are numerous features about this appliance to love but my favorite is the water reservoir. You can remove and fill at sink or leave in place and pour in water from coffee carafe. No more trying to pour a heavy carafe of water into a small opening in the top of the maker and spilling it all over the counter! ThIs coffee maker comes with a gold tone filter that has demarcations for coffee ground measurement vs counting "scoops". Easy to program with 2 auto set options if you sleep in on week ends, and the hot plate temperature is adjustable! In addition the cord is stored in the base and you only need to extend what you need to reach outlet! All these great features and a slick modern look make this the perfect coffee maker!

I am so far very pleased with this coffee maker! The instructions for programming the clock and preset brewing times were easy to follow. It took me about 30min to unbox, set up, program, flush with 2 cycles of water, and fill with water and coffee so it was ready to go in the morning. It also has a variable time option for how long the carafe warmer stays on before automatically shutting off (max 4h). I was pleasantly surprised with the included reusable filter -- it has measuring gradations to help you use the optimal amount of grounds (in case you aren't the type to use a measuring spoon). I'm not sure I will use the 12c capacity often, but it will be a nice feature for when I have people over. My coffee was ready and waiting for me when i got up this morning, and is still warm in my (cheapo, not super insulating) travel mug 2 hours later. Looks pretty sharp on my counter, too!

This is another great product from the Kitchenaid brand. It works very well, it's so easy to operate and it's made with quality in mind so you know it will last. I personally Love the modern design and the black/stainless coloring. I also love the simple cyclindrical design of the coffee pot as it makes the coffee much easier to pour than traditional pots. Another convenient feature is the removeable, refillable water reservoir, although, be careful, it's lid comes off quite easily. The deep showerhead shape of the filtee ensures coffee doesnt spill out and it contributes to one amazing cup of coffee, thatvyou just have to try! I highly recommend this coffee maker, it is a great quality, beautiful machine that does it's job exquisitely!

My last coffeemaker of a different brand was a nightmare. It took a rocket scientist to just set the clock but whoever came up with the features of my new Kitchenaid coffee maker with the spiral showerhead knew what they were doing! Every button was thoughtfully placed and easy to use. I can't even believe the difference in the flavor of the coffee and I know the spiral showerhead had something to do with that because it makes sure every bit of the coffee grounds get soaked. Nothing was missed when they designed this coffee maker!! I absolutely love everything about it . It makes the greatest tasting coffee first and foremost..I love the separate water tank.. super convenient and so much easier to clean.. the built in filter is awesome as well.. it was a nice surprise that it has a portion ladder inside so measuring is spot on!! The rain shower feature makes sure the water is distributed evenly.. having a clock and timer also makes life easier.. it's also beautiful on my counter.. Yesterday I received my new KitchenAid coffee pot and let me just tell you this coffee maker has a lot of great features.
